Preamble

The Brigidine Province of Victoria is currently responsible for the ownership and administration of 8 secondary schools. It is anticipated that within the next 5 to 10 years all of these schools will be administered by people who are not Brigidine Sisters with few (if any) Brigidines on staffs.

Structure and Accountability

Initially the Brigidine Secondary Schools' Council will consist of at least the equivalent of one full-time Brigidine, plus others (Brigidines and/or lay) as negotiated with the Provincial Council. The Provincial Council will invite potential members to form the B.S.S.C. which will be accountable to the Provincial Council.

Terms of reference:

The major focus of the B.S.S.C. is governance and planning. While working in collaboration with each school its aims are:

  • To initiate processes which assist in developing and implementing continuing policies and practices consonant with the Brigidine Criteria for Ministry
  • To address the question of long term governance which is just and educationally sound
  • To assist in long tern planning and financial arrangements
  • To work closely with the Catholic Education Office authorities in each Diocese, and with other bodies in planning the future provision of Catholic Secondary Education
  • To identify ways in which these schools are authentically Catholic
  • To explore opportunities for 'alternate' education
