Terms of reference for the Brigidine Secondary Schools' Council
for 1997-2002
The Brigidine Secondary Schools' Council (BSSC) is appointed by
the Provincial Council and is responsible to the Provincial Council.
The BSSC began in 1993 and continues to work as a service group
with the secondary schools in a planning and supporting role. It
works on behalf on and as adviser to the Provincial Council as requested.
The BSSC will further develop process for determining the future
of Brigidine schools and education. This includes clarifying the
various roles and lines of authority and communication between all
groups involved.
The following is a set of amended terms of reference for the next
five years:
To develop and support the Stewardship Councils in:
- the induction of new members
- the planning of meetings in conjunction with the Principals
of the schools
- the ongoing articulation of the philosophy and tradition underlying
the Councils
- the induction and support of chairpersons of the Stewardship
Councils
- assisting in the establishment of Committees of the Stewardship
Councils and in supporting these Committees.
- To continue the development of RE in the schools and to support
the schools in working in ways that are authentically Catholic.
- To explore ways of re-expressing the Brigidine story and tradition.
- To collaborate with the Provincial Council in secondary educational
matters.
- To be a reference, advisory, service and monitoring group for
Principals of Brigidine secondary schools.
- To assist in long-term planning and financial arrangements for
Brigidine secondary schools.
- To devise consultative processes for working on common Brigidine
policies and approaches.
- To work closely with Catholic Education authorities in each
diocese and to work with other bodies in planning the future provision
of Catholic secondary education.
- To research and develop a proposal for the ultimate transition
of the schools from Brigidine to other sponsorship.
