In response to an invitation by Bishop Moore in 1888, five Brigidine
Sisters arrived from Ireland to establish a Catholic School in Ararat.
This began in February, 1888, and by 1900 the Brigidine Convent
of the Sacred Heart school was blessed and opened.
In 1962, the primary and secondary sections of the school were
separated and the secondary school was named Marian College.
Marian College is a co-educational Years 7 to 12 school. Currently
we have an enrolment of 375 students drawn from the shires of Ararat,
Northern Grampians and Pyrenees. The population of the school has
continued to steadily increase over the last four years from a base
of 300 students.
In 1997 to 1999, an extensive building and renovation program was
undertaken, funded by the Federal Government to the extent of almost
three million dollars. This provided the College with a much-needed
upgrade of resources.
