The Advent dream is full of hope and promise: ‘Judah shall be saved and Israel shall dwell in confidence’ (Jer 33:16), Jerusalem is that mythical
city of peace and integrity (Baruch 5:1-9) and
Bethlehem will emerge from nonentity from the
time when ‘she who is to give birth gives birth –
to the one who is himself peace’ (Micah 5:1-4).
Doesn’t this rhetoric of Advent point to a worldsized
agenda? A dream yet to be realized?
