The Council of the Congregation’s meeting held in Sydney in June 2005, opened many doors that paved the way for experimentation within the Congregation before the next Forun in June 2007. The Sisters in the New Zealand Region spent many weeks praying, reflecting and discussing what the future might hold for us as we ‘age in place’. Our Regional Assembly Day on 15th October saw a new model of Governance emerge that enabled the Sisters to share more areas of responsibility within the Region. As a result, Sister Cyprian Wilson was elected Regional Co-ordinator and Sister Trish Hanaray her Assistant, both for one year. The areas of responsibility, taken on by the Sisters, were noted and a whole new era began to unfold.

At the end of November news was received that Sister Cyprian Wilson had been awarded the Benemerenti Medal. On 3rd December in a packed Sts. Peter and Paul’s Church in Johnsonville, Archbishop John Dew, on behalf of Pope Benedict XV1, presented her with the Medal for thirty years of dedicated service to the Parish. “An award so richly deserved”, said Archbishop John.

The traditional supper for St. Bride’s Old Girls’ Committee was held in Masterton on 8th December. This occasion marked the last time they would meet with the Sisters at their present address. By the end of May 2006 a new, low maintenance building, will be standing on our existing property adjacent to the present Convent. The ‘old’ property and grounds had become too costly and difficult to maintain.

On the 16th December, our Foundation Day, the Sisters gathered in Levin for a celebratory dinner. It was a time to catch up and chat, to enjoy good company, food and the “Kris Kindle” gift giving. The Foundation Brigidines were well remembered. In 2007 we will be celebrating the Bicentenary of our Congregation founded in Ireland. Please keep us all in your prayers.
