Regional Projects
The Sisters in the Region support actively and financially, common projects across the Congregation
-
We are an active member of, and working in partnership with, a United Nations
Non-Governmental Organization - UNANIMA
International that focuses on the trafficking
of women and children, displaced persons and
the welfare of the earth.
-
In the Region we give 1% of our income to support financially low decile ‘Brigidine” schools and colleges in the lower North Island.
-
We financially and prayerfully support Challenge 2000 – a Community, Youth and Social Work Agency that promotes social justice, develops social responsibility and respects the dignity of each person. It also empowers and provides opportunities that meet the needs of young people.
-
We promote and support financially - Nathaniel Centre – a Research, Advisory and Resource Centre that promotes research into Catholic bioethical issues. It also promotes the study of Social, Ethical and Legal problems, Aged Health Care and Ethical Business Practice.
We are involved in the Peace Movement of Aotearoa, New Zealand. Submissions were made against the proposed Government’s Foreshore and Seabed Bill, stating that both Maori and Pakeha have attachments to coastal land, and that Maori
customary rights should not be ignored.
-
We pay attention to and respect the Articles of the Treaty of Waitangi. We oppose the injustices that the Maori people are subjected to over land, foreshore and seabed rights. We encourage the growth of trust and greater dialogue between Maori and Pakeha – we are all guardians of the earth.
-
We continue to lobby, through the power of the pen, asking major countries of the world to abolish the debt owed by poorer countries.
