Who We Are
We are retired teachers and nurses, a small group of vibrant and committed women who, in responding to our
mission call as Brigidine Sisters, show that we are women who work in collaboration with each other, share our wisdom, act responsibly, are mutually accountable and welcoming to all those whose lives we touch.
We are involved in chaplaincy work, Justice, Peace and Development Movement, hospital and home visiting. A few of our Sisters are members of parish teams, and are an active, prayerful and pastoral presence in our various parishes and local communities.
We live a simple life ready to share generously our time, talents and resources, especially through hospitality and in prayerful solidarity with those in need. As Brigidine Sisters, transformed by age and grace, we hope to live with serenity, the years the Lord has given us.
Our Heritage: New Zealand
Two hundred years of history
We look to what our forebears left us. They left us a belief in the goodness of God and others. They kept alive the passion and love of the Eucharist given us by Daniel Delany, our Founder. They showed us, by example, the significance and importance of prayer as part of everything we do and say. They left us a sense of stability and a belief in our own integrity. They placed before us the value of commitment and a dedication that knew no bounds when it came to the spreading of the Word of God and love of neighbour.
We look at our own Sisters today, women who love the Lord, who are strong and gentle. Women who are enablers, who are approachable, who respect themselves and others, who are human, creative, positive and hospitable.
Women who, two hundred years later, are still making sure that the essence and spirit of Bishop Daniel Delany and Brigid our model, continue on into the future. The Legacy that we pass on to others through prayer, example, story and the history that is so uniquely ours, will not only be found in the ‘trace elements’ that our forebears left us, but also in the testimony of many ‘living books’ scattered around the world today. Now, and in time to come, it will be found in our Associates, also the “carriers of our charism” to all people touched by the Celtic spirit of Brigidine Sisters.
