Current Focus
The Province Forum in 2000 expressed the contemporary context of our lives
in a Proclamation of Hope:
We seek to be people of hope because hope energizes us to
shape a future.
We move forward with those who belong to the Brigidine Community for Mission
and with all people of goodwill.
As followers of Jesus and people of the gospel our concerns are:
- an inclusive, diverse and welcoming church
- spirituality that enlivens and empowers people
- social structures that bring peace and justice to all
- reconciliation with indigenous people and life in partnership with
all people who live in our land
- the sacredness of all creation
We value being a community which is courageous and enterprising and to
this end we will try to:
- deepen our commitment to prayer, constantly revisiting scripture for
inspiration
- live simply and share what we have
- extend hospitality in an open and inclusive way
- initiate new ventures in the cause of good
We celebrate times when we:
- challenge assumptions that no longer seem valid and are brave enough
to move in new directions
- work together and encourage and support each other
- speak and act about issues of justice
We seek to live the Gospel with Strength and Gentleness.
This directional statement continues to intersect with the Province's
Criteria for Ministry. Even though these Criteria were developed as ways
of determining our choice of ministry in the final decade of the 20th Century,
we continue to reflect on our engagement in the light of these statements:
We will work out of an educational base
We are committed to ways of working that are collaborative and just
In ministry, we will adopt a pioneering and creative approach
We will work in ways that acknowledge the right if full participation of all
baptized persons
We have a particular concern for women's rights and interests
We choose to develop structures that will enable us to be flexible in
our approach to change, personal need and communal involvement.
