Walk up the nave to the crossing under the central tower where the four parts of the church meet. High up in the tower you will see windows depicting Brigid and Conleth. Brigid is shown with a flame rising above her head; a perpetual flame is one of her symbols. Tradition suggest that Conleth lived as a hermit at Old Connell, near Newbridge and that Brigid chose him to assist her in governing the double monastery as Abbott-Bishop. He is generally regarded as having been the first bishop of Kildare.
